Cappadocia At Its Best Time

Cappadocia is one of the most interesting travel destination located in central Turkey. As a tour guide I have been to Cappadocia with tour groups many times. I also lived in Cappadocia for about six years back in the 1990s. I have always enjoyed walking through surreal valleys of Cappadocia in different time of year from warm summer days to the snowy winter days. The best way to enjoy and explore Cappadocia is to walk through any path you come across.

This time I have visited Cappadocia with a group of friends and I wanted them to see Cappadocia at its best time for photography since most of them were photographers. So we decided to wake up early before sunrise and walk from the town of Goreme to Cavusin. This part of Cappadocia has the best rock formation and many cave houses and old

Byzantine monasteries along the way carved into the soft volcanic rock of Cappadocia. This is also the area where hot air balloons take off for their flights. Balloons of different colors add a lot to the surreal landscape and the scenery of Cappadocia at the time of sunrise. We enjoyed a two hours walk taking pictures, watching the color of landscape changing as sun rising. We saw balloons being prepared for the flights and then taking off. Apart from enjoying the fairyland of Cappadocia we have explored some cave churches monasteries and cave dwellings. Our walk ended in Cavusin town. We had a nice coffee break before heading back to our hotel for a nice breakfast.

Cappadocia is an amazing and a unique place with its volcanic rock formations, cave houses, painted old churches and underground cities. I would suggest to stay at least two days in Cappadocia. One morning enjoy a sunrise walk and another morning enjoy a hot air balloon flight to see this breath taking landscape from the air. During the rest of day there are a lot to do in Cappadocia. You can explore underground cities and visiting open air museums to see beautiful fresco painted Byzantine churches.
